Angular Cheilitis Treatments

Angular Cheilitis (also called Perleche or Angular Stomatitis and sometimes misspelled as Angular Chelitis) is a sore and invasive infection in the corners of the mouth. Children often have dry and chapped lips that have little cracks in them - this is called cheilitis and is caused by excessive licking of dry lips or slobbering over pacifiers or toys.

Adults get sores in the corners of their mouths. Sometimes these cracks get extremely infected and pus may form in them them. The same yeast that causes yeast infections in women and male yeast infection is also responsible for this infection that causes these fissures and sores in the corners of the mouth. Both corners of the mouth are normally affected.

It is very debilitating in adults since apart from the discomfort and pain, there is the social aspect to deal with as well. Adults find that they cannot eat with comfort, and showing affection such as kissing becomes almost impossible. Since an attack can last for a couple of months this can have a major effect on relationships.

Angular Cheilitis treatment centres around using topical anti-fungal creams such as nystatin, although there is a natural solution available made from ordinary household items that will quickly and effectively treat the problem.
